Understanding How Grief Affects Us and Steps to Recover

Regardless of the cause of loss, grief affects us emotionally, in our soul (= Soul, Emotions, and Will), and creates a new and painful reality for us, especially when we lose a loved one, experience a financial loss, or reach the end of a close relationship. Healing is possible. But it does require proper action steps!

Emotions are normal and essential to our living experience and can negatively affect our Mental and Physical Health if not properly managed, especially during grief.

The ability to experience, manage, and express our emotions are key to our quality of life. It is normal to experience emotional overwhelm during stressful or painful life events. Giving ourselves time and space to experience the emotions is key to regulating our energy. Self-parenting is an effective and valuable way to exercise self-care.

Here are a few suggestions:

  • Not suppressing but accepting the emotional pain.
  • Gently managing your thought process, i.e., ‘My broken heart will heal. This pain is temporary.’
  • Ensuring proper physical activity. Walks are amazingly beneficial!
  • Proper nutrition. Fruits and veggies are warmly welcomed by our body!
  • Proper hydration, mostly clean water or herbal teas are very good for our internal organs, including our brain.
  • Rest, not just proper hours of sleep, but mental rest, which requires proper mental management.
  • Reminding ourselves daily that all our efforts to recover from grief will help us avoid long-term physical and mental health challenges. Our mind will follow the direction of our most prominent thoughts!

Remember: Recovery from Grief is achieved by a series of small and correct choices, including those we have just mentioned. There is Hope!
