Welcome to My Story, my Testimony! I will share it to illustrate the life-transforming power that lies within each of us.
I hope it will inspire you to see how life’s painful circumstances can become a powerful connection to the One who created us perfectly designed with an innate restorative ability and the potential to fully enjoy a life of abundance.
I was born in Cuba. At age 18, I arrived in America with a broken heart as a political refugee during the historical Cuban exodus. Uprooted from my homeland as a young adult to escape Communism, my future in a foreign land looked bleak. Life as I knew it had ended.
Learning a new language, laws, and the culture of the land, was a challenging and stressful endeavor, which affected my sense of security and identity.
Five years into this process, I married shortly after the initial meeting. The marriage was painfully dysfunctional from the onset yet lasted seventeen years. It affected both my mental and emotional health, causing me to suffer from seizures and chronic depression.
One day, in desperation, I cried out to God for help and fell asleep weeping. I awoke feeling light as a feather, with a sense of inner peace and newness of life I had never experienced before.
Shortly after this, while still trying to understand what had happened to me, I received a Bible as an unexpected gift. The Word of God became my daily source of inspiration, healing, and direction.
I learned that although I had cried out to a God I did not know, He did indeed know me, ‘He knew me before He placed me in my mother’s womb, (1) ‘He loved me with an everlasting love,’ (2) and ‘He had plans for my life.’ (3).
I later understood that His Spirit led my prayer for redemption. The unusual sense of peace and newness of life I was experiencing was His Presence now living in my spirit. (4)
I discovered that God is not a religion, but a real and fascinating Person. I realized that He used my adversity to open a door for me to a supernatural dimension of life in His Spirit (5), available to each one of us.
I learned that He created us in His image as triune beings, with a spirit, soul, and body, to enjoy an intimately personal and loving relationship with us not just as His creation, but as His beloved children (6).
I soon adopted the life-changing discipline of renewing my mind through His Word, (7) a daily practice that has fully restored my mental and emotional health. (8) I have recognized Isaiah 61 as my life calling to “heal the brokenhearted, to comfort all who mourn.” (9)
I am grateful to share what He did in me, He has been doing through me for decades now, touching countless lives, marriages, and families.
